Even a small act of kindness can blossom into hope.
Julie was in one of the darkest periods of her life – fighting pancreatic cancer, mourning the death of her dear mum, and dealing with the side effects of a recent transplant.
Looking back on this time Julie remembered deciding then and there that “it was a one day at a time for me and sometimes it was 1 hour at a time.”
But another memory stands out during this dark period.
“I remember when I was at my lowest, one of the amazing nurses saw me struggling with my treatment. She made me a bunch of paper flowers from medical forms.
“These acts of kindness were across the board with all the nurses that have looked after me from Cancer Centre to the home care team. A lot of them I now call true friends and my angels.”
This small act of kindness has inspired Hope for Haematology, a fundraising event that allows you to spread hope with a small act of generosity.
How to get involved
This year, your donations will contribute to three targets:
- Gaming console and games for younger patients going through cancer treatment.
- Window tinting in the treatment space to improve patient comfort.
- Messages of Hope, a collaborative art installation for the Haematology ward to encourage current and future patients.
If you are unable to donate, spreading the word with your community can also be a massive help.
